Dental Bridges

Successfully spanning gaps

Bridges are a natural-looking way to replace one or more missing teeth, and they provide a fixed alternative to dentures.

They usually consist of a false tooth located between two crowns which fit over the teeth either side of a space. We can also use dental implants to secure bridges.

Why you may need treatment
You may have lost a few teeth through decay, gum disease or trauma, and you are looking to restore the look and functionality of your mouth.

The benefits of treatment

  • Restores your smile and self-esteem
  • Improves eating and speaking ability
  • Realistic-looking
  • Prevents remaining teeth from moving

How we treat you
If your bridge is being fixed to natural teeth, we prepare these by reducing their size. Impressions are then taken so the bridge can be produced to your unique requirements.

A temporary bridge will be fitted to protect the prepared teeth and, when ready, the final bridge is checked for size and fixed in place.

What else you need to know
There are a variety of bridge types available including Maryland (or resin bonded) bridges which fill the gap left by a single missing tooth. They consist of a false tooth with attached wings which are cemented onto the supporting teeth.

It is important to maintain an excellent oral hygiene routine which should include cleaning your bridge, the area under the false tooth and the supporting teeth to avoid decay and gum disease. It’s also a good idea to not bite down on very hard foods to prevent damage. By taking care of your bridge, you can protect your investment and ensure its longevity.
